Sequim Boys and Girls Club

The Sequim Boys and Girls Club is an amazing community outreach to our kids, and if you haven’t seen the facilities and all that goes on in this beautiful facility, you really ought to do yourself a favor and visit.  This is a safe place for kids to go in a constructive environment guided by mature and experienced staff and a cadre of devoted volunteers.  But this is much more than an activity haven for kids, as if that were not enough.

It’s also a wholesome place where donors and volunteers can make valuable contributions to the lives of kids and to the community.  You’ve heard statements about how great it feels to serve others?  Have you experienced that lately?

Here’s a great summary from their website:

Boys & Girls Clubs nurture young people’s self-esteem by instilling in them a sense of Belonging, Usefulness, Influence and Competence. We do this daily by providing young people with one-on-one relationships with caring adult professionals and fun, age-appropriate, well-rounded programming. Our programs are carefully designed to support achievement of our Movements Youth Development Outcomes for young people leaving our Clubs at age 18:

– Positive Self-Identity

– Educational, Employment, Social, Emotional and Cultural Competencies

– Community and Civic Involvement

– Health and Well-Being

– A Moral Compass

Here are some of what is going on:

CHARACTER AND LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT: Programs in this Core Area empower youth to support and influence their Club and community, sustain meaningful relationships with others, develop a positive self-image and good character, participate in the democratic process, and respect their own and others cultural identities.

EDUCATION & CAREER DEVELOPMENT: Programs in this Core Area enable youth to become proficient in basic educational skills, set goals, explore careers, prepare for employment and embrace technology to achieve success in a career.

HEALTH & LIFE SKILLS: Programs in this area develop young people’s capacity to engage in positive behaviors that nurture their own well-being, set personal goals and live successfully as self-sufficient adults.

THE ARTS: Programs in this area enable youth to develop their creativity and cultural awareness through knowledge and appreciation of the visual arts, crafts, performing arts and creative writing.

SPORTS, FITNESS, AND RECREATION:  Programs in this area develop fitness, positive use of leisure time, skills for stress management, appreciation for the environment and social skills.

If you’ve lived in the Sequim area for a while, you know the Boys and Girls Club is solid and productive, and one of the best non-profits we have in the area.  Whether you have school age children who participate, grandchildren, or just want to enrich the lives of children in the community, may I suggest you vist the Club soon?

You can find their website at Sequim Boys & Girls Club.  If you participate now, by all means please leave your positive experience with the club in a comment below.
