Octuplets Born

A woman in Southern California had octuplets yesterday morning just before 11:00 a.m.  The instant family included eight boys and two girls.  There was a team of 46 doctors, nurses and surgical assistants at Kaiser Permanente Bellflower Medical Center involved for a period of weeks in planning the birth, but it still was a surprise, because they only anticipated seven.  Then came the eighth!

These are only the second octuplets born in the U.S.  It’s what you might call a miracle.  The doctors said the children, born nine weeks premature, were in incubators in stable condition. Their weight ranged from 1 pound and 8 ounces to 3 pounds and 4 ounces.  The babies are reportedly doing fine.

How do you pick eight names at once?  How about a numbering system, or maybe letters?  How do the parents know which is which?  I would suggest name tags on each child’s wrist until they reach the age of 18.

The mother preferred to remain unknown, so we don’t know anything about her or her family at this time.  Read more on this amazing birth in the Los Angeles Times.
