Benjamin Netanyahu Next Israeli PM

The middle east has been in turmoil over the Gaza strip, and Israel has gone to war again against the terrorist group Hamas.  The election of Benjamin Netanyahu as the new Prime Minister has significant implications for the months ahead.  You can be sure Israel will not be timid.  If there ever was a clearer thinker than Netanyahu about the conflict that has raged along their borders, I cannot think who it was.

Israeli President Shimon Peres Friday asked right-wing leader Benjamin Netanyahu to form Israel’s next government. Mr. Netanyahu, who has served as prime minister in the past, immediately called on Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni and Defense Minister Ehud Barak to join him in what he called “a broad national unity government.”  [Read Netanyahu to Form New Israeli Government.]

Clearly national security and the safety of Israeli citizens has risen to all time highs as men, women, and children in Israel must run for cover constantly from terrorist missiles fired from Gaza.

The right’s strong showing was fueled by voters’ concerns over security at a time when Palestinian militants continue to strike from Gaza and Iran plows ahead with plans to develop its nuclear capabilities. . .  Mr. Netanyahu campaigned on promises to boost security and improve Israel’s economy. He has pledged to focus less on negotiations with the Palestinians and concentrate more on shoring up the Palestinian economy. He has also called for toppling Hamas.  [Read Netanyahu Wins Key Backing.]

War in the Middle East and a world in economic turmoil bordering on major International depression.  Such are the times we live in.  Let’s hope and pray Netanyahu can bring stability and peace to the region.
